volunteer and donation opportunities in Staten Island NY

Staten Island NY is full of rewarding donations and volunteer opportunities that you should know about!

Spring has finally sprung throughout Staten Island, which means a lot of people are cleaning out their homes and looking to spend more time outside in our beautiful coastal weather.

And if you’re finding all sorts of clothes and household items that you no longer need, then just remember that our community offers many incredible volunteer and donation options that make it easy and rewarding to give back to our area’s most needy individuals and families.

All of us at The Bini Fund work closely with various charities and organizations throughout Staten Island as we reallocate all of your very generous donations on a regular basis, and we also want all of you to know about these organizations more in depth.

So, check out the below sections to learn more about the most popular volunteer and donation opportunities in Staten Island!

Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation

The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation provides Staten Island’s neediest children with financial and emotional support, and their main goal is to ease the burden of less fortunate people in our community. Some of their main programs include collegiate scholarships, food pantries, a STEAM program, a mental health program, Christmas organizations/events, and a world-class incentive program for young students.

We’ve worked closely with this organization for many years, and they host several annual events that provide wonderful volunteer and donation opportunities.

The Emergency Children’s Help Organization (ECHO)

ECHO is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to children living in Staten Island who have undergone a medical or living emergency. They support kids and families with things like medical bills, medical equipment, medical travel expenses, living essentials, educational/athletic programs and therapy.

Their purpose is to care for families going through a difficult journey, and they offer various donation and event opportunities to support their heartfelt cause.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation

Tunnel to Towers is an organization that means a lot to us here at The Bini Fund, because they’re a non-profit that also began shortly after 9/11 in order to support fallen first responder families with young children.

They also specialize in building smart homes for injured veterans and first responders, and one of their main missions is to eradicate veteran homelessness throughout the country.

The GRACE Foundation of New York

The GRACE Foundation supports Staten Island’s children, teens and adults who live with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and they’re consistently hosting events and programs that support these individuals and families in a variety of fun ways.

They offer both volunteer and donation opportunities, and this is a very special organization that we work with on a regular basis.

The Anthony M. Varvaro Believe Foundation

The Anthony M. Varvaro Believe Foundation was founded in honor of the retired MLB player and Port Authority officer Anthony Varvaro, who tragically lost his life while protecting the 9/11 Memorial Service at Ground Zero on September 11, 2022.

This foundation’s mission is to support families and individuals who’ve faced unexpected tragedies, and they also support youth sports in the Staten Island community.

We’ve always felt a close connection with this foundation, which is why we’re constantly working with them to create change, foster hope, and provide a brighter future here in Staten Island.

Michael’s Cause

Michael’s Cause is a local organization that aims to fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Michael is a local teenager here in Staten Island who suffers from this genetic condition.

This organization provides many fun events and ways to get involved, and as of 2025, Michael’s Cause has raised over $2.6 million toward medical research.

Catholic Charities of Staten Island

The Catholic Charities of Staten Island offer various direct services that serve the Staten Island community at large. They provide preschool and infant daycare, many programs for developmentally challenged youth, senior citizen assistance, and social services for families in crisis.

This is a wonderful organization that we work closely with, and they offer many volunteer and donation opportunities that give you a chance to meet clergymen and parish members alongside our community members in need.

City Harvest

City Harvest is a surplus food redistribution organization that provides free, nutritious, fresh food for people experiencing food insecurity all throughout NYC. For over 40 years, City Harvest has helped some of the neediest New Yorkers.

This organization offers many ways to support them, including volunteer, donation, and food drive hosting opportunities.

Meals On Wheels Of Staten Island

Staten Island has a great Meals on Wheels program that serves nutritious meals to our community’s elderly residents. By delivering two daily meals to senior citizens, Meals on Wheels makes it much easier for elderly and physically impaired people to live independently—which is especially necessary for those who can no longer prepare their own meals or go grocery shopping.

And what’s great is that anyone with a valid driver’s license who’s over the age of 18 can volunteer with our Meals on Wheels program. Many of their volunteers only require a couple of free hours for one morning per week to deliver meals, so it’s a wonderful volunteer opportunity that offers convenience and consistency!

New York Cares

New York Cares is an annual coat drive organization that supports the city’s homelessness and widespread hunger issues.

They offer many great volunteer opportunities, including serving in soup kitchens, schools, public parks, senior centers, libraries, and other nonprofit establishments. There are also volunteer opportunities in all five boroughs.

One Warm Coat

Although our weather is just starting to warm up, it’s a great time of year to donate coats to needy individuals.

One Warm Coat is one of the most popular donation coat drives in Staten Island, and your donations today in April might even help people next fall when temperatures start to drop again!

Project Hospitality

Project Hospitality is a Staten Island-based organization that supports hungry, poor and homeless residents in our community.

They offer many donation opportunities, including financial, food or supply donations. You can also volunteer with them, and food donations should be dropped off at the Community Services Center located at 514 Bay Street.

Some of the food items that are particularly high in demand include:

  • Canned meats
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fish
  • Vegetable & fruit juices
  • Tomato & pasta sauces
  • Cereals
  • Rice
  • Non-perishable milk

South Shore Community Pantry

The South Shore Community Pantry offers food and mental stability for Staten Island’s most needy community members.

They hold various fundraisers throughout each year that help provide blankets, clothing and toiletries, and they provide many ways for community members to support them.

Urban Fairies of Staten Island

The mission of the Urban Fairies of Staten Island is to provide assistance for our community’s struggling families via educational resource opportunities and support. They aim to alleviate hunger, poverty, and other problems that plague our society at large by breaking down generational codependency patterns that have unfortunately been perpetuated for decades.

They’re a non-profit organization that offers many volunteer opportunities, and you can reach out to them directly by calling 646-568-5094 to learn more about how you can offer your support.
